16 and Pregnant

Here is a clip of the next episode of MTV's 16 and Pregnant. Good news for fans of the show, the show has been picked up for a second season. And there will be a finale special (Thursday, July 23rd at 10pm ET/PT) where will we be able to see what is going on in the young families.

I have mixed feelings about the show. It shows how hard these girls struggle. But it also makes it seem easier than it really is. The boys are still there, they move in together and become engaged, and they manage to do it all. But for many girls it doesn't turn out that way. They are stuck at home friendless, and the boy has moved on to the next girl before labor day. Maybe next season MTV will tell some of those stories. Because that is the reality more often than not.

The MTV press release is below.
Reflecting on one of the most controversial and thought-provoking topics, MTV President of Programming Tony DiSanto announced today that after only 3 episodes aired, the network is picking up a second season of the captivating series “16 and Pregnant.” In addition, MTV will also air “16 and Pregnant: Life After Labor” finale special, hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky, on Thursday, July 23rd at 10pm ET/PT. “16 & Pregnant” can currently be seen on Thursdays at 10PM ET/PT.

The series follows the lives of teenage girls for 5-7 months as they navigate the unfamiliar territory and uncertainty of being pregnant. MTV captured every moment and reaction in real time, including several of the births and how the young mothers and fathers dealt with new parenthood. The series tackles a variety of issues including marriage, adoption, attending school and dealing with gossip. Cameras continued to follow the teens for a significant amount of time after they gave birth to document how they coped with taking care of their infants in addition to balancing adult responsibilities with teenage life.

The “16 and Pregnant: Life After Labor” finale special, hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky, will be an issue-driven forum on teen pregnancy. All six of the teen mothers profiled on season one of the series will participate in this event. Dr. Drew will discuss each girl's episode, specific issues and challenges and update us on what's going on in their lives now. This open discussion will provide a platform to address the controversial topics that were shown in season one: birth control, adoption, abortion, marriage, religion, gossip, finances, high school graduation and employment. During the show, Dr. Drew will field questions by members of the live studio audience, as well as select emails from viewers.

Since its debut, “16 & Pregnant,” has garnered amazing ratings reaching an audience of over 31 million views and consistently taking the #1 spot in its time period among F12-34 and #1 across all of television among F18-24. In addition, the show has improved its time period by 162% among P12-34 and 184% among F12-34. “16 & Pregnant” has also found success online. Since premiering on June 11th, the show delivered over 3.4M streams to date, making it the second most streamed series on MTV.com within their time period underneath “The Hills.”

The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy is working with MTV to support “16 & Pregnant.” In partnership with MTV, The National Campaign will continue to create viewing guides for each episode so educators, key organizations and individuals can use the show, which will be available rights free for distribution, as a platform to have an honest discussion around sexual health and pregnancy with teens. Additionally, The National Campaign launched an online resource supporting the show at www.stayteen.org to answer viewers’ most commonly asked questions surrounding pregnancy and provide young people with the information they need to be fully informed on this topic.

“16 & Pregnant” is Executive Produced by Morgan J Freeman. Tony DiSanto is President of Programming for MTV. Dia Sokol is Co-Executive Producer. Liz Gateley and Lauren Dolgen are Executives in charge for MTV. Jessica Zalkind is Executive for MTV. Concept by Lauren Dolgen.

Executive Producer Morgan J. Freeman (MTV's Taking The Stage, Laguna Beach,) made a name for himself as the Sundance award-winning writer/director of Hurricane Streets, a film centered on the trails and tribulations of teenage life. Freeman’s latest film is called Homecoming, a thriller starring Mischa Barton and Jessica Stroup (90210) and is being released theatrical July 17th.

Diana Ross

Everyone thinks that Diana Ross is a strange choice for backup guardian for Michael Jackson's children. But is she really? She has raised her children that have managed to stay out of trouble. You don't hear stories about her children checking into rehab, or even worse checking into jail. And there are tons of grandparents Diana's age raising their grandchildren in this country.

Michael's parents screwed up Michael and his siblings. So I can understand that if Michael doesn't want those same siblings raising the children he went to extreme lengths to protect. Or an even worse scenario, the kids left in the care of Joe Jackson. He would probably try to beat them into becoming performers like their father, aunts, and uncles.

And the LA Times is reporting that Michael Jackson's memorial will be held Tuesday at the Staples Center.

Kevin Jonas Trading In Purity Ring?

According to the Jonas Brothers Myspace page, Kevin (21) has become engaged to girlfriend, Danielle Deleasa. He proposed at her New Jersey home with a cushion cut ring from Jacob & Co. The pair met in the Bahamas. And no wedding date has been set.

Here is the official statement from Kevin's parents:

Our hearts are filled with joy today and we are happy to share with you that our son Kevin has asked Danielle Deleasa for her hand in marriage. Her answer was yes and it is such a blessing that she will be joining our family. Kevin and Danielle have not yet set a date. Family is very dear to us and we hope we have raised Kevin to be a wonderful man and husband. Please join us in our families celebration and in congratulating Kevin and Danielle. Thank you for all of your support.

I know that there are a million little hearts breaking. But cheer up girls, there are still two left.

Court Decides That Sean Goldman Should Stay With Stepfather

A federal judge has ruled that a 9-year-old boy at the center of an international custody battle must remain with his Brazilian stepfather until a final ruling is issued on the boy's permanent custody, local news media reported Saturday.

The ruling would overturn a separate judge's order earlier this month that Sean's biological father, U.S. citizen David Goldman, should have custody of his son six days a week whenever Goldman is in Brazil. (Isn't this decision going to make it even harder for the boy to transition to his father. Why not allow him to stay with his father while David is in Brazil? This way the father and son will get to know one another before his eventual return to the United States.)

No one answered calls by The Associated Press to Goldman's Brazilian attorney and to the lawyer representing the stepfather.

In 2004, Sean's mother, Bruna Bianchi, took him for a vacation to her native Brazil and never returned. She later married Rio de Janeiro lawyer Joao Paulo Lins e Silva and died last year giving birth to a daughter.

The boy is now living with Lins e Silva, who wants to retain custody.

Goldman, who lives in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, has been seeking custody of Sean under the Hague Convention on international child abductions, which requires that participating countries return abducted or wrongfully retained children to the country of their "habitual residence."

A lower court in Brazil ruled earlier this month that Sean be returned to the United States, but the decision was suspended by a Brazilian Supreme Court justice based on a petition filed by a political party, which argued that removing Sean from his current family environment would hurt him.

On June 10, the Supreme Court issued yet a third ruling, that the decision on the boy's fate must be made by a federal court. It's not clear when that ruling may come.

Coleman Family Murders Update 1 July

What does the Joyce Meyer Ministries have to hide?

Sheri Coleman's family wants to know. The family is suing Chris Coleman for wrongful death, and is seeking information from the ministry such as life insurance policies, safe deposit boxes, pensions, overheard conversations, travel records, and private flight plans. But Joyce Meyer Ministries wants the family to sign a confidentiality agreement. The agreement would allow the church to tell the lawyers which information they could or could not use in court.

One of the family's lawyers responded to the ministry in writing, "As I view [the draft protective order], if I elect to use any of the materials in subsequent pleadings, memorandums, client communication, press releases, I first must seek the permission of Joyce Meyer Ministries, Inc., ain’t gonna happen."

Papers were filed yesterday to force Joyce Meyer Ministries to cooperate with Sheri Coleman's family.
