The New Xbox 360

The new Xbox 360 console will be shipping within the week (19 June according to Amazon). Cosmetically the new console is thinner and more shiny. In other words, within a few days it will be covered in fingerprints.

But the majority of changes are inside where it matters. The console will feature built-in Wi-Fi and an internal, swappable 250GB hard drive. It is also being reported that it will be much quieter than previous models.

The sad part is that the Xbox Kinect, used to be Project Natal, won't be available until 4 November. The Kinect is the super cool peripheral that allows you to play without a controller. It uses infrared technology to track your movements in 3D. It's like a Wiimote without the remote part. Leaks from Gamestop have it priced at $150.

XBox 360 Natal

My children are lifelong Nintendo fans and even they have to admit that Microsoft's "Project Natal" for the XBox 360 is cool. Microsoft will be bringing Minority Report style game interaction to the market. Instead of using a controller the add-on uses a sensor bar similar to that of the Wii. Except that the Natal uses cameras to track body movements, making the player the controller.

I'm not an engineer, so watch the video to understand what I am babbling about.

NYKO Wing

Looking for a graduation gift for a video game loving grad (Or dad, it is almost Fathers Day.), check out the NYKO Wing. The wireless controller enables you to play classic video games on the Wii without being tethered to the game console. And the two AAA batteries give you up to 30 hours of playtime. $29.99
